Most of us have heard that hemp can be used for clothing, ropes, and building materials. But in recent years, hemp has also become a valuable tool for human and animal health and wellness. Join hemp producer Katie Moyer from Kentucky Hemp Works for an insightful discussion about the many health benefits of using hemp for everything from clothing and building materials to life-changing natural remedies. Katie got an early start on the recent history of KY hemp when she drafted Ky’s first bill to legalize hemp in 2009. After spending several years traveling the state promoting the legislation, educating, and lobbying for passage of the bill, she was appointed to the KY Industrial Hemp Commission. As a hemp commissioner, Katie continued lobbying and educating about hemp, and even played a role in drafting the regulations alongside Department of Agriculture lawyers. When the Farm Bill passed and hemp became legal for pilot programs, Katie
was one of the first Americans to put certified hemp seed in the ground. Her order of seed from Italy made national headlines when the DEA hijacked 250lb of certified seed from Italy, prompting then-Commissioner James Comer to file a lawsuit against the DEA for the return of the seed. After years of networking and developing the hemp industry, Katie is now in her fifth year of growing hemp and is KY’s first
processor of hemp seed oil, protein, and manufactured items. Her company, Kentucky Hemp Works, is now shipping KY-grown hemp products nationwide as she continues her efforts to bring hemp to all U.S. farmers.
Katie sits on two state commissions, the Kentucky Industrial Hemp Advisory Board and the Kentucky Agriculture Development Board. She currently resides in Christian County KY with her husband and three children.
